It all depends on the kids. Stephen Drew, Conor Jackson, Carlos Quentin and Miguel Montero hold the keys to the D-Backs season. Because they got a great starting rotation.

As high as 2nd, as low as last. Their success largely depends on the performance of their young hitters, such as Chris Young, Stephen Drew, Carlos Quentin, Conor Jackson, and Miguel Montero. Not only how well they hit, but also how well they play defense. Their ceilings are all very high, so if some of them have a huge breakout season, there is a chance they will contend for 2nd place in the West. Their rotation is relatively solid, and their bullpen is average at best.
The main issue is the Dodgers are going to dominate with their 3 ace pitchers, great bullpen, and good offense. The Padres will be fairly good, but not good enough to beat the Dodgers. The Giants didn't make enough upgrades, and they lost Jason Schmidt. I think they are very overrated. Although the Rockies got better by acquiring some key rookies as well as Willy Taveras, they will probably still occupy last place. I predict the Diamondbacks to finish 3rd this year.

My guess is the D'Backs are about two years away from seriously contending again. Randy Johnson will win some key games for Arizona; but I don't see them being better than 4th in the NL West this year. It's going to be a three-way race between L.A., San Diego and San Francisco for the NL West crown. Colorado will be stuck in the basement again this year.

I think a lot of that answer will depend on their bullpen, the rotation is pretty solid and the batting order about average. I think if we can put teams away while we're ahead we might have a chance at a playoff run.
