Stop trying to convince him. I have a feeling you're giving mixed signals, saying things to him like "I'll aways care for you but ..." and taking his calls when he's "unable to cope" and staying on the phone with him, agree to meet him to "help" etc. etc.
Stop all communications

you do not need to console him!
"sometimes he acts like a psycho"???
a man that loves you would not get violent with you!
please CONSIDER YOUR SAFETY FIRST and avoid him.
perhaps he needs time, but as other posters mentioned, continued contact will only prolong this dangerous situation.
if you feel you must so something, send a third party, (maybe an adult that he respects) to express to him that, 'while you respect your time together, he needs to respect your decision as well'!

there nothing that you can do, if the situation is over then he
need to accept this and move on. if you continue to be in the
picture he will never deal with the fact that it is really over. both
of you need to make a clean break once and for all.

Cold turkey no contact if he/she is having a hard time dealing with the break up. You can't help someone thats not ready to let go they have to do it themselves.

You can get him a surprise for Valentines Day.Might I suggest a young sheep named Dolly? This sheep is very effective and the best thing about Dolly is she does not "kiss and tell."

yaar..
just be strong and ask him to buzz off...
even if he gets violent or aggressive DO NOT try to pacify him..
Break up and totally ignore him(it might be a little tough and inhuman but thats the best for u..)

For your ex to get over it - you need to break all contact.
It will hurt both of you but will also get both of you to move on and realise that you are not together anymore.

stop any form of contact, i mean ignore him totally. don't pick up his calls n avoid running into him. remember it's hard to let go of true love so don't be harsh take it slow. he will get it eventually.

A clean break is always better. Who wants a hook stuck in their eye?
