your burner will either be able to burn cd's or dvd's, it should say right on the front of it what it burns........the best cd burn software is nero, it kicks ***.............. go to downloads.com and find a free version of it

No, Some are combined, some are not. A dvd burner will, most of the time burn cds and dvds (audio and video files) , but a cd burner will only burn audio files, it will not burn video files, you will need a dvd burner for that. The software should be in the drive it self or you can use, windows media player to audio files. Or you can go to Download.com and find driver software for it, or who ever built or manufactured the drive, there site might allow you to download the software for that particular drive.

That burner you have will only burn cd audio or cd files to a cd-r or a cd-rw, the first is one you not able to add or erase once it is burnered, the rw can be added to and erased from.

They are most definitely not the same thing.

A CD burner will only burn Cd's like CD-R and CD-RW.

A DVD burner will burn DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, CD-R and CD-RW.

There is a good little FREE program called XP Burner, that burns both Cd's and DVDs. It is not a massive file like Nero and Roxio versions. It runs fast and also converts ISO files if you need to do that.

No, a CD burner is used only to burn on CDs. It will say either CD-R (for writeable CD. You can burn to these once, like writing on a piece of paper) or CD-RW (for rewriteable CDs. You can burn to these as often as you like, like you would manage a floppy disk). CD-RW CD Burners can burn regular writeable CD's, too.

Yours sounds like it's a CD-RW Burner, so yeah.

A DVD burner is used to burn DVD's (and possibly CD's, I'm not sure).

If you want to burn just audio CD's, I'd recommend using Windows Media Player, as it's simple to set up and use. Part of the reason it's around is for burning audio CD's.
