Was Ted Kaczinski so off with his manifesto condemning various people in the field of technology? Think about it - we invent things to make our lives easier. We advance in technology so we can live longer. Hence, we are continually over populating our nations and no longer does survival of the fittest apply. In a sense, we are weakening the human species due to our fear of mortality.

So, do you feel that technolgoy will eventually become the end of humanity?

Technology by itself is mere knowledge and skill... just the means or the tool. I wouldn't undermine ourselves by believing that our tools or means can cause our end..... yes, their misuse can do that and their good use is our responsibility..... how can we blame the enablers when we are the ones who use them irresponsibly?

If our desires and objectives are not right and cause imbalance, such as can destroy us, then we have only ourselves to blame... it is our lack of wisdom rather than our advancement of knowledge that may bring an end to the humanity.... the role that advancement in technology may unfortunately get to play would be to hasten the process of our destruction set into motion by our unwise desires and objectives.

Yes and no.

Will technology be the end of humanity as in how much we care and have compassion for our fellow man, it already is going that way. Let me explain, we have so much information coming at us and flowing around us that we are in a constant state of just pre-information overload. This causes stress, stress in turn leads to anger and depression, shorter lives and an essential narrowing of our focus to just us and those around and close to us. This is causing a break down in how we interact with each others as far as our compassion and tolerance of others.

Will technology be the end of us as far as like the terminators or alike, NO. We have not as yet been able to create an artificial intelligence that is capable of matching our own. This means that although we can create a computer that can beat a human in chess, place that same computer in a battle field in command of an army and the human will win due to the changing rules of the battle field. This is the same for everything that we do, as humans we are so versatile and adaptable that those who say that the human body is fragile would be dumb struck by just how much we can do. What this all boils down to is that no matter who advanced computers become there will always be a human in the drivers seat. This means that we will be our own end if anything happens.

Hope this helps.

Humanity will be the end of humanity. Whether or not that be through technological means we have yet to see.

On a side note, technology may actually be the savior of humanity as well. For instance, if a massive asteroid strikes the Earth, we're finished. However if we find a way to terraform and colonize other planets, we'll have much less chance of being wiped out by a singular cataclysmic event.

Well, humanity will presumably come to an end eventually, and we'll be technologing mightily the whole way, so I suppose so.

Because that's the way we are. It's pretty much like asking if walking upright and telling crude jokes will be the end of us. We have tool-making wired into us, one module over from sexual attraction and running from things larger than we are. We have colonized the most unlikely parts of the earth, and we'll be doing it with the rest of the universe one of these days if we don't kill each other off first.

But we're cleverer than that; and will prevail. Poor Dr Kaczinski couldn't quite reason past that point, I guess.

We care about people here in our own country that is why many of us are able to find a way to survive The reason others in other countries have problems is because there isn't a strong system that helps the small guy get involved in the big guys plans. The big guy has the food, the know how, and the ability to conserve life. That in it self is a technological jump. There is more jumps for us. Our heros are the people that are looking for them.

Since the day us up-right primates discovered how to control fire, marks the eventual destruction of all living beings on this planet. the more we discover, the more we invent, the less we're like our more primitive cousins( other lifeforms), and thus, the surviving the fittest doesn't apply. and yes, technology will be the end of humanity. also due to the fact that we're still relying heavily on fossil fuel.

I love science and technology. However, i am acutely aware of the problems facing knowledge and wisdom. A person can know many things, and create many things ... however, is he wise enough to use his creations with care and responsibilities?

Birth Control --- Yes, we have the means --- but are we using it properly? Does this cause "Objectification" rather than giving a woman a voice?

Nuclear Technology --- Yes, they've been built --- but will humans find love over hate? Could we use for energy instead of blowing each other up?

Cloning --- Many cows have been cloned, and now they want to serve it to us to eat without disclosing we're eating cloned meat --- then the cloned cows will breed with normal cows, and we'll never separate anything for research.

Space Travel --- What are the plans if we ever find Intelligent Life???

I love technology --- however, there seems to be a SHORTAGE in ETHICS and morals to lead us to use our creations wisly.

this is an exceedingly genuine threat. there is even a term for it. that is referred to as Transhumanism and it refers back to the point of human evolution the place people will start to alter into section-machines, with the aid of cyborg-like digital implants. this would sound very sci-fi, besides the indisputable fact that this is already a fact for some people who've %. makers, or are linked to insulin machines or use desktops to speak. A extra aggravating difficulty is the point referred to as Posthumanism, wherein the guy or woman would be so fused with the machines that that is going to likely be almost indistinguishable from them. this would contain "importing" of the human ideas right into a working laptop or computing gadget, besides the indisputable fact that it would not would desire to. some futurists have self assurance that despite if machines by no ability will exchange into truly clever, they are going to nevertheless be waiting to substitute humanity with the aid of their sheer omnipresence in each component of our subculture. In such a posthuman worldwide, the guy or woman will exchange into beside the point, and finally extinct.

well, if we start cloning ourselves we'll have at least twice the destruction. now if an arm or something can be recreated for a person that'd be great. oh, except for soldiers who lose limbs, then get a new one and get sent back to the battlefield :(
if we do what we've always done, which is exploitation, there will probably be a race of "worker" clones, but that will be considered alrite since they arent real people. then there will be a rights for clones movement, etc. can't we just think about things for once?
argghh!! Don't even get me started on cyborgs!! ( and it's NOT sci-fi) i was born in a body of flesh and blood.

I think technology is moving too fast for people in general to handle. Just like with money people just see what it will buy rather than seeing it's effects on people, so too technology moves so fast without thinking how it will affect people. And what if everyone depended on technology then one day we had to do without it? the younger generation would be in big trouble (moreso than the older generation)..
