Cheetah

The people that answered this question previously are just arguing about something completely stupid.

I believe you worded your question incorrectly, your intended question being, "What is the fastest land animal?" If I am correct in believing so, your answer is the cheetah. It can reach speeds of 71 mph.

If you really meant, "What is the fastest animal of all?" then the answer is the peregrine falcon, reaching speeds of 130 mph in the air.

Simple as that... no need to argue over something dumb.

Surely the clue is in the question - ON earth. Not IN THE AIR.

If any of those who have answered peregrine falcon have a video clip of one ON EARTH running faster than a cheetah I would LOVE to see it.

Even bricks dropped from the sky will travel faster in the airthan a cheetah on land, but they are remarkably slovenly on the earth. (I suppose a cheetah, dropped from an aeroplane, would ALSO reach around 120mph.)

the fastest land animal would indeed be the cheetah but on (planet) earth i'd say it's a falcon (130 mph)...that leaves a cheetah in the dust!

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, peregrine falcons have been known to dive at speeds in excess of 217 miles per hour! Why do they do this? To kill other birds for food. Peregrine falcons, also known as duck hawks, circle high in the sky, then tuck their wings in and dive down on smaller birds like finches, pigeons, or gulls. With their talons (claws) exposed, peregrines usually kill the other birds instantaneously. They basically turn themselves into bird missiles --- which can leave a cheetah or gazelle in the dust!

Perigrine falcon. To the person who said "on earth" is a clue and falcons aren't on earth, think about clouds. That would be like saying there are no clouds on earth. That's why peregrine falcon should be the answer.
