Like the guy said take it to Auto Zone or any automotive parts house where they might do this. Check to see who can check your car for free also. There might be something else wrong that the mechanic did not fix and that is why the light is not off. And if it is related to the accident, then with this info tell the mechanic that the light is on and act ignorant. Ask him if he forgot to reset but could he just check it to make sure nothing is wrong. Just in case. Now if Auto Zone did find something or not, you do not tell him. He may well try to "HIT" you with a "something is wrong and for a $100 I can fix it." whereas Auto Zone found nothing. THen if something was wrong you can see if he catches it and then may try to reset it and say nothing is wrong. Then you know what kind of mechanic you have. Go from there and talk to your insurance adjuster first and tell him what the mechanic did or did not do though.

Reset the ECU, just disconnect your battery terminals for 10 minutes or longer. You will have to reset all radio presets though.

I know what you're talking about. There is a little black slot next to the "light" on the dashboard where you can stick the tip of your key (or other small object) to reset it to green.
