Olive Garden seems to be the better choice. It was a warm, friendly atmosphere with nice and tasty Italian food. The price is good, and it is just a lot of fun going there.
The best part is the BREADSTICKS!!
You can get an unlimited amount of it and it is so good!!

Hometown buffet has more choice. The buffet used to be great, but now the quality of the food is horrible. When I go to Hometown buffet, it seems like there is nothing that looks attractive. I get a plate, and go back to my seat empty-handed.

Overall, OLIVE GARDEN is the better choice for me!!

Definitely Olive Garden. Home Town Buffet seems fake now

well, these 2 places are drastically different, although they are both restaurant chains...

any buffet will have a wide variety of food, and the Olive Garden is basically Italian, so whatever your preference of food should direct you...
personally, I prefer the quality of the Olive Garden over the Hometown Buffet

Olive Garden has more 'gourmet' type food preparations and service that will most likely far surpass any service you receive at a good home cooking buffet establishment. My tastes and preferability of atmosphere vary from time to time as I am sure yours do too. Both can , and most likely will, have delicious food and exlempelary service. Since your father knows all this too, I would say his question to you is 'what class or prestiege would you like to dine in; be seen by others in'. Your father gave you the choice and you should make it based on your desires: Not the expectations of others. Your dad sounds like a fine man, just as you will be. I do not know your father, but wherever you decide to go, please insist that, if you all got reasonable service, he tip 25% of the total bill, alcoholic drinks (if any) and tax included. Servers make thier livings off of customers tips and if they do a decent job (they are paid, in most cases), less than three dollars per hour, should inspire all diners to tip something.

Definitely the Olive Garden. I worked there for five years and I have yet to get tired of their food. Mmmmmmm......if you like a white sauce go for anything with alfredo on it. If you prefer a red sauce, I highly recommend meat sauce or if you like a little spice try the arrabiata. Also, you have the neverending salad (crispy, cold and oh so good) or maybe a soup. If you're not intimidated by italian sausage then try zuppa toscana. A buttery soup with potatoes and sausage. Or perhaps the more popular pasta fagioli (beans and ground beef). Don't forget to start out with some perfectly deep fried calamari. Oh! And do ask for alfredo sauce for dipping those delicious breadsticks (also neverending). Even though they fired me, even that can't stop me from singing their praises!!!! Now I have to have it tonight!!!!

Olive Garden! Hometown Buffet use to be good, but know it taste like a bunch of frozen food. Olive Garden has much fresher and tastier food.
