One of my mums closest friends has been suffering with depression and has really been down. My family, my mum my stepdad my and my sister always backstabb her when she isn't around. I don't know what to do about it, i have asked so many times for them to stop because i can't handle them backstabbing her. Sometimes they say some pretty nasty things about her behind her back. I wish they would wake up to themselves and realise what a great friend she is, i don't want to keep hearing them say bad stuff about her. Also when i tell my mum to stop she carries on like a child and had a tantrum. It just makes me mad because sometimes it feels like i'm the mother and my mum is the child. I just want them all to realise that life is too short to bag out great friends, people that do this sort of thing don't deserve friendship in my opinion. Any advice?? thanks : )

That's kind of tough. If you can leave the room when they start bad mouthing this friend-after a while they may get the hint. You could possibly try one more time to sit down with your family, and let them know how you feel about this, and let them know next time they do it-you will not be in the same room with them until they stop. take care.

Just tell them that she is your friend and you don't want to hear anything nasty that they have to say about her. If they continue ignore them - as long as you know the truth it will be okay. Try not to let it bother you, you can't change other people. Something that may help - when they start and won't stop just get up and walk away. Go to your room or for a walk, something they can't interfere with. Eventually they'll stop.

When they start talk about that, walk out of the room...You dont need to sit there and listen, nor do you have to respond to them...
