Valentine's day, just like Christmas, is a day remembering someone or something.
Christmas for example, is Christ's birthday, during the Victorian Era, no one celebrated his birthday, they don't even get a day off, but now, look at people, children get presents and most of them don't even know why. WHY? cauz, it's been commercialized by the toy and candy company, to popularize a celebration that was meant to remind people this Christ person suffered for the better of people's lives, it's a day to be sober and exchange "small" gifts to celebrate HIS birthday.
Now for Valentine's day, a day where we're suppose to understand what love do to people, but it turned to a day where gushy couples cuddles to gather giving gifts such as roses, by the way were grow in specialized gardens, and chocolates( grow by third would country folks). It's all part of the propaganda to sell products like candy hearts( which may I point out, is really disgusting), all by the big companies and factories.
We've lost the real meaning to alot of the holidays/ memorial days.

Valentines day is celeberated in memory of St. Valentine. He did put some efforts in binding people who were truly in love.

These days the concept of the day is just to spend some romantic moments with your mate (no matter whethere it's for love or lust) and enjoy. Very few of the couple out there understand that they are enjoying the day because back in the history some holy person had put a hell of effort in giving some recognization to true love...

Valentines Day is a day of Courtship.

A religious vocation is Marriage --- so as a Christan, I treasure this day for those called to be married. I used to get jealous, and wonder why I had so many poor experiences with V-Day --- then I realized that this "Courtship" is a special occasion --- It's the rare occasion where love is on fire with passion. Sadly, I think commercialism has tarnished this special day trying to make everyone feel entitled to this special feeling yearly. Young couples (usually with little money) are the ones who benefit most from this holiday --- all nudging them towards their vocation - Marriage.

A few years ago we in India didnt celebrate Valentine's Day. Now the greetings card companies have got us hooked on to roses and gifts on Feb 14th.And now they are laughing all the way to the bank while we foolishly ape an alien celebration!

Valentine has sacrificed his life for the sake of uniting two lovers. Actually it is not to enjoy. We should celebrate the day as Good Friday by remembering his saga for the sake of true love.
