We live in a country that is supposed to guarantee separation of church and state. Therefore, the law has no business saying who can and can't get married based on religious grounds. And there are no other grounds.
During the early 1950's, psychologist Evelyn Hooker carried out a landmark experiment where she tested both heterosexuals and homosexuals with tests designed to be diagnostic for mental disorder. She then presented the test results to other psychologists and asked them to pick out the homosexuals. They could not. These results were peer review puiblished in 1957 and as a result, homosexuality was removed from the next version of the Diagnostic and Statistical manual.
"As of 2006, all of the professional organizations in the field state that homosexuality is a normal, natural, and fixed sexual orientation, with the exception of a small group, The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality whose beliefs appear to be based on conservative Christian theology." Currently, the American Psychological Association considers any attempt by a therapist to change a client's sexual orientation to be unethical..
Years ago, some people said it was wrong for blacks and whites to marry and it was illegal in some states. Yet it really was just an excuse to enforce discrimination and enable bigotry.
It's not enough to simply say it's wrong. You have to be able to say why it's wrong, without using the bible. I challenge anyone here to find some valid reason for denying a group of people a basic human right. We're not supposed to have second class citizens in this country.
Please don't say anything about the sanctity of marriage. Heterosexuals like Britney Spears do far more to tarnish that concept than any gay or lesbian couple that I know could possibly do.

GAY Marriage is NOT defined as between a man and a woman. Re-read your wording there hon.
Yes, Gay/Same-sex marriage should be LEGAL.
I don't care what YOUR religion says or how marriage is defined by YOUR religion.
Keep your religions out of MY government and MY laws!
I'm a human being, a tax paying citizen of this country. I DESERVE the same HUMAN DIGNITY and ACCESS to rights, freedoms and liberties as any other HUMAN being! My being human and being a recognized equal citizen SHOULD be reflected in laws which apply to me and those like me.
Here, lets say there's a public building and a physically handicapped person.
The entrance to that building, say a Post office, only has stairs but the physically handicapped person has no legs.
Would you say, "Hey, you have the same RIGHT to enter that building as I do!....You're only asking for Special Rights...no one else needs a ramp to enter that Post Office, why should you be so special?"
No!
That's discrimination!
Well, when heterosexuals say to gays that gays have just the same right to marriage as they do, they are in fact saying the same thing as someone with legs saying to someone without that they have the same right to walk up the staircase as everyone else.
I am NOT attracted to someone of the opposite gender, so marrying someone of the opposite gender FOR ME is ludicrous!

Who defined it that as "between man and woman"? If you mean God did, then sorry, invalid point. Seperation of church and state, remember? Everyone in America doesn't have to be Christian, and everyone isn't. We don't make laws according to religious beliefs.
Oh, and I think gay marriage should be legal because all people deserve to have equal rights in this country.
By the way, your ignorance is showing. You may want to cover that up, dear. Very unattractive.

Why not? What are people scared is going to happen?
The Christians say that marriage is a divine institution joining one man and one woman only, and that to allow same sex marriages destroys the sanctity of the marital institution. How can Christians say such things? As if marriage were still intact. They say Marriage is supposed to be between one man and one woman only. If this is a true statement to you, then you are a Bible believing Christian and you must also agree that sex is supposed to happen only between two married people. We all know that there are many Christians who have sex before marriage? The divorce rates among Christians are so high it is ridiculous. How many of us have heard of Christians participating in adultery, pastors addicted to pornography? The institution of marriage was desecrated long before the homosexuals asked for the privilege of marriage. It was desecrated by Christians. It isn't non-Christians preachers that must leave their churches due to extra-marital affairs. Its the Christians.
So Christians should stop trying to tell Homosexuals that they cant get married.

No, notwithstanding civil partnerships are fairly a lot a similar element, granting legal rights etc. as they'd in a wedding ceremony. the numerous distinction is that the ceremonies won't be able to be finished in a church or different religious construction. notwithstanding some church homes now will carry out civil partnership celebration amenities, this can contain having the actually civil partnership ceremony in a registry place of work, then having a separate provider in the church - somewhat like the way Charles and Camilla married.

I think SSM should be legal because I am a law abiding citizen of my country. I feel as though that since I am, my guy and I deserve all the benefits/predetermined givens that married couples have. I feel that until such time that orientation is taken out of the marriage equation laws are inherently unjust.

Okie .. bringing up the man and woman thing is silly ...
Cause if you had to go with the original sense of wedding:
-Women should shut up and listen to their husband as they are their master
and they exist to serve them..
-Anyone divorcing shalll go to hell
-No wedding between races.. it's an abomination!
-Women shall take care of their kids and men shall have fun with other men..
Education is unnecessary for girls since all they need to know is how to take care of the house..
I don't need to add up to this..
Now if you take the modern reason people marry :
-Officialising an union
I think gay people are as worthy as aynnoe else to marry..
and the thing is gay people DON'T want a RELIGIOUS marriage.. they just want to have the same rights as anyone else.. nothing wrong with that..

I don't know. If gay marriage is legalized, they'd be part of the norm. And... in time, gay activism will be dead. And, I don't want that. Let them gripe about it for a looooong time.

Marriage is the joining of two people who are in love.
Why should we (Gays) be excluded from this just because in one small way are relationships differ from a heterosexual one?
