Well, whatever. How about GMOs? (Genetically Modified Organisms). Science can now inject the genes of animals into plants to produce super-plants. On the one hand, improved crops could feed the world. On the other hand, improved crops could take over the world -- Attack of the Killer Tomatoes might not just be a bad movie. (-: Just kidding. I'm sure it won't be that bad, but the guys against GMOs have some good points.
There's also gas-powered vehicles vs. solar-powered vehicles -- it doesn't seem like there would be a controversy there, but people are not switching over in droves. The tech isn't quite there yet, and there are some powerful people who don't want to see the gas business go out of business.

Try researching the topic of human evolution. Map out the branches different species that are thought to be part of the evolution of man. Then you can take the facts you've found, draw comparisons to the modern man and either support a theory of human evolution of draw contrasts and deny human evolution. Why don't you do one on what has happened with the Wolves. First they were a threatened species....now they are over-populated.....I know in Idaho they are having problems with them...check out Wyoming, too. Might make an interesting paper how the best intentions cause other problems.
