I lived in Sierra Leone for a while--most people thought it was somewhere in Asia. We would get some weird questions like: who is the president of Africa? or what language do people speak in Africa? I would try to be nice and answer that Africa is a CONTINENT made up of many different countries...

Hi, I am in total agreement with you. I had asked a similar question in Yahoo answers: (General - Society and Culture)
" Why do people think of Africa as one big single place? when someone travels to one country only in Africa for holidays, he will say i am going to Africa (instead of naming the country he is going to)."...... you can go check the answers if you want to.
