The framers of the constitution introduced checks and balances and seperation of powers. So why is the president more powerful than the congress and the supreme courty, especially with sending troops to iraq?

The president is the Chief of the Armed forces, but Congress is required to authorize a war. If they do not, the president is allowed to deploy troops for a limited period. This enables us as a country to have a fast response yet keeps the president from warring at will.

The Executive Branch or the President is the most powerful branch in the government because the justices of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President and the Senators are the subortinates of the President in their political parties. Thus, the President always have influence or can practically dictate to Justices and Senators on what should be done in government.
