The World Series gets played after the League Championship series are the over. It starts in mid-to-late-October.

That's why MLB's marketing "geniuses" borrowed this phrase for its marketing. "THE HUNT FOR OCTOBER."
This was supposedly a stirring way to describe the September stretch drive, or something.
But yes, the regular baseball season always ends by the end of September, though the final games sometimes extend into the first or second of October. Then the Divisional Series games are played the first week of October; then the League Championship Series are always held the second week of October, followed by the World Series which can stretch into the end of October. That all depends on how quickly the LCS series finish and if the World Series goes the full seven games.

Last year it started on Oct. 21st. This year it will start on Tuesday, October 23rd. A game 7, if necessary, will be on Halloween Night, October 31st. The Tuesday start for a World Series will be the first since 1990.

The world series is played after the Nl Champion series and the American championship series are played. 8 Teams from each league play each other. The one team to win the most games in the series of the division gets to play in the championship series for their respective leauge. The one team from each league play each other for the world series and that usually happens in October.
