Where can I get GIS boundary datasets of India?

Question

All I need are base geographic datasets of India.
Boundary shapefiles with international borders, and maybe state borders and ideally, place names.
I've been searching and searching and I can't seem to find anything except a really low resolution set of boundary shapefiles.

The software we used in school labs had simple boundary files of countries and internal divisions provided with the package to use as base maps...you might dig around in the data files.
