Eric Clapton and J.J Cale's "The Road to Escondido" album is good. It's got that classic "old" feel but it's modern. It mixes several styles, but if you listen to any of Clapton's earlier stuff (seeing how you've listened to SRV and Hendrix I'm assuming you have) you'll like it. Though I'm not a big fan of his singing, Bob Dylan's "Modern Times" is a new album with old flare. If you want a modern person more so than songs, take a look at John Mayer. I'm not a big fan of his, but he plays good blues guitar. Personally, as far as some rarely played blues go, buy the "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" album by Derek and the Dominoes. It's known for "Layla" of course, but every song on there that Clapton laid down blows my mind. It mixes Duane Allman's and Clapton's guitars (some of the most awesome duels of solos). That album also contains Clapton's cover of Hendrix's "Little Wing." It's more electric, but more "bluesy" than Hendrix's version.

Have you listened to:
Buddy Guy (wow - 70 and still better than most on a guitar)
Robert Johnson (the grand-daddy of blues 1936-1937)
Eric Claption (his blues stuff)
Gov't Mule (Blues rock band - great stuff)
Canned Heat
Johnny Winter
Leon Redbone

I recently rediscovered the blues, and have found that they are the true roots of jazz, pop, rock, country and pretty much anything else worth listening to.
