My choice for the NL division crown would be the Cardinals.
The Cubs did do alot of spending, but in the wrong areas, Prior and Wood have never lived up to their expectations. Zambrano is the only good pitcher they have. And they picked up Marquis?
The Brewers have the best rotation, but lack any kind of pop in the bat. Geoff Jenkins? Not exactly great.
The Astros might give the Cards a run for their money, but there are holes in their positions
Reds will die off in the end of the year, but Bronson Arroyo will make it interesting.
The Cardinals have a younger rotation than last year and they got rid of the worst pitcher the Card's have seen, Jason Marquis. Anthony Reyes will continue to get better, and we all have seen Adam Wainwright's nasty curveball. Albert Pujols will have another MVP candidate year, Rolen will have a consistant year unlike last year, Kennedy and Eckstein will play great in the middle infield, if Edmonds can see from all of the concusions he has suffered from he'll have another Gold Glove year (providing no injuries, fat chance), but the corner outfield and Closer is iffy. Cardinals underacheived during the end of the regular season, very streaky. The Cardinals will win the NL Division over the 2nd place Cubs, 3rd place Astros, and 4th place Reds.

Based on talent, potential and management I would once again have to pick the Cardinals. Even though they did not improve significantly, they really don't have to as long as they keep playing up to their potential. With the experience and management on the team, they should be considered the team to beat in the NL Central. Yes, the Cubs, Brewers and Pirates have made improvements, but they were nowhere near the team the Cards were. Plus there are some questions concerning some of these other teams deals (did they really get their money's worth?). With a veteran ball club like St. Louis, you will see them near the top at the All-Star break and if you do, they will make the necessary trades to take themselves to the playoffs.

I personally as a Cubs fan would love to say the cubs are going to win it, but like every other year something happens. Derek Lee is coming back from an injury, Wood and Prior are always hurt so don't expect much from them, Soriano is going to have to adjust to center field a little, and behind Zambrano, Lilly is the next best pitcher starting...behind that there isn't much to work with. I believe that the Brewers are the best bet. They have a good defense, and they have some great youth on the team. I do believe that they will be the top contender along with cincinatti. Chicago sadly will finish 3rd.

I would go with the Brewers, although none of these teams jump out at me. The Cardinals and Astros lost a lot of pitching (Suppan, Weaver, Pettite and Clemens), and the Pirates and Reds aren't quite there yet. The Cubs made some big moves, but as always they will be hurt by Prior and Wood's injuries. The Brewers have some great young bats with Hall, Fielder, and Weeks, and if Sheets stays healthy their pitching is as good as anyone in the division.

Cardinals will if everyone stays healthy, cause only reason they only had 83 wins last season is cause Pujols and others were injured for a while, and if Pujols woulda played all year they might have ended up winning 12-15 more games than they did, which woulda given them round 95-100 total wins

The Cubs! The did a great deal to improve during the off season. The Cardinals are not that good. Last year was a fluke. The Cardinals will be lucky to play .500 ball this season.

The beloved reds of Cincinnati Ohio. Why? Because They're going to get very lucky, have no injuries, and everyone on the team will have a career year. It's the only way they could, but that's the beauty of spring. You have to believe in your team and I do.

I am going to say that the Cardinals have just as good a chance as any. You should always go with the defending champions until they lose.
