But unlike the previous administration the republicans have actually lowered taxes and have increased revenue.

The opposite was true for the previous administration which raised taxes and more than doubled spending. Of course the action led to a recession that started in 4 quarter 1999 or first quarter 2000 timeframe.

So you see the Republicans have actually reduced taxes that they hate. The uptick in spending has to do with more revenue and government programs already set up.

An even better question is why do Democrats love taxes and want to raise them?

OK, if you want the answer you need to listen.Republicans are for lower taxes, but not at the expense of our military.Liberals could care less about our military, and want higher taxes for social programs. It seems like we spend more ,but actually we just have to get our military back to the levels they were before Clinton cut them.Big spenders in military doesn't mean higher taxes it means we must cut social programs, and a bloated government.Reagan beat the Russians and ended the cold war with a strong military.get it now?

First, Democrat Presidents have historically spent way more on a per annum basis than Republicans - however they tax us more so the debt is not realized as much.

The vast majority of American Presidents have been Republicans so it's reasonable that they are responsible for most of the debt.

By the way, how much have property values increased over the past 50 years - a hell of a lot faster than US debt. - That's prgress folks.

Good point. This is only new to GWB and a recent group of senators/reps. Reagan did not operate that way. Republicans need to get back to their roots. Until they do they will lose many elections to come.

Because Republicans very commonly follow the 'double standard' rule. This rule basically means 'do as I say, not as I do.'

Well remember that congress has to approve budgets. However I will agree that way too much money is being spent.
