Hi! I'm a college student, and I find it extremely difficult to sit down, get to work, and get anything accomplished. Has anyone ever had this problem? I can't get any work done in my room, and other places don't seem to be much better. It seems as though the only time I get things done is when I am on a tight deadline and must FORCE myself to get things done. It would be nice if, for once in a change, I could find it in me to start working on projects and papers a few days ahead of time as opposed to midnight the night before it is due. I don't believe I have taken ritalin before. What do you all do when you need to focus?

Sorry... typo on my part... I meant to say, "I don't believe I have ADD, but I have taken ritalin before".

Procrastination in college is very normal. As an employee at a university I see tons of students with this problem. There are several reasons that could be occurring. You could be waiting to do you work simply because you know that you have "plenty" of time to get your work done later. If this is your mindset maybe should consider filling your time with other things like student organizations or a part-time job. Another way to address your situation is to get a study group for each of your classes. This will require you to start working early and your peers will keep you focused.

Sometimes it's okay to procrastinate, but it's better to do things a little bit at a time. For instance, if you have an essay to do for English, do the Works Cited or Reference page a few days before you are planning on actually writing it. Usually, if I am having problems focusing, it's because there are other things on my mind. Make a list of all of your assignments, and hang it somewhere that will get your attention every time you look at it. This way, you will know what you have to do and when your deadlines are. When you have a spare moment, don't spend it watching television or chatting online. Turn the television, the computer, and your music off. Then, do a portion of one of your assignments.

look, when in college some terms are more interesting than others, school work included. Try an focus on your sole purpose there....you have to finish your work at some time, better now than never and try and think of the benefits on doing things in time. You won't feel as stressed, you might even find some free time...how to accomplish this?? Buy a planner and stick to it...it really works
