I have a HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop. On the right side of the screen about 3 inches in is a red vertical line that comes on before windows starts and stays on and doesn't go away.

A pixel is broken in the monitor. I had the same problem but with a yellow line. I suppose it's the same thing. You have to get a new monitior or try to get technical support since its a laptop.

This is the strip on the top of the lcd that is damaged ... it can be such a minute damage to the screen to cause one of the bands to go out... sometimes you can grab the screen on the top where the line is and barely twist the monitor until it disappears.. The only way to really fix this is buy a new lcd for the laptop. It is damaged usually by holding the laptop wrong or picking it up wrong and twisting it in a way that it damages the lcd. Its not cheap to get an lcd and have it replaced... I usually charge parts plus 40 dollars to do them where im located. The screen is usually 50-80 bucks.
