I click on internet explorer and it takes about 8 minutes to fully get to the home page. Things move around on the homepage...like the animated things that are supposed to. The links click, but then I would need to wait another ten minutes or more to get to that page. If I try to close IE than that takes ten minutes and the not responding screen pops up a few times prior. Every other computer in the building is working fine so I assume it is not our network. The rest of the computer is working fine and there is more than 50% of free space. Oh, and my updates for my security software are installing. I am not sure if all my windows updates are installing.
Here is what I have done...
- tried to download IE 7...it wouldn't download
- cleaned out the computer of unused programs and ran my cleaning software.
- defragmented
- turned off (mildly - strongly - completely) the internet security, from options as well as my Mcafee software
- virus scans
- update scans
What else?

Try giving FireFox (http://www.mozilla.com) a shot. It is an alternate browser to Internet Explorer. This won't necessarily solve your problem with Internet Explorer but it would allow you to view other websites and verify if the problem is with your network, Internet Service Provider (ISP), Windows XP, or just Internet Explorer on your system. It really sounds like you have some infection that is tying up your browser. You may also want to bring up Task Manager () and then switch to the Processes tab. Sort on the CPU % and see if you have a running process taking up a large percentage of the system's CPU (don't worry about a system idle process if that is taking up most of the system...it represents the idle percent rather than active usage). You could also look at various spyware utilities (I like SpyBot S&D and HijackThis, but there are plenty of options out there).
Good luck.

Sounds like you have a bad case of spy-ware on your computer. Since it is running so slow I recommend you download the spy-ware program below on your computer at home and burn it to a CD (or copy to a flash drive) and then run the program on your work computer.
The program is called Ad-Aware. It can be downloaded here:
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
Once you have installed and run this program then I suggest you clean up your registry using this program. It has a free 30 day fully functional trial. It is Glary Utilities at: http://www.glaryutilities.com/
After that use the same utility to control which programs automatically start up when you start windows. Only start up the ones that really need to start ..most don't .. you can start them up yourself when the computer has booted up and if you need to run them.
If all else fails you may want to do a brand new install of Windows XP. If you do then keep in mind that EVERYTHING you have saved on the computer will be deleted ..
Good luck!

I had just tried Cyberdefender.com's free download and really liked it, then found out it crashes on W98. If you've got X, then you might go for it. It found more cookies and spyware than any of the others, and it also will run in the background, etc.
www.fixit.com is one place to get info I just learned
Or... You can just take your trusty steed out behind the barn and plug 'er with your .357
Had to do that once, too.

Let this puppy update first - restart and then see if it is back to normal.
Don't know if your System Admin. has scheduled all the machines to update at a certain time - that would use up a lot of bandwidth.

not sure but my opinion is that your proxy or your ip address in not configured correctly that's why it takes too long to load a page. check the proxy settings and the ip addresses of a few of your coworkers and compare them to yours.also check your lan settings and your gateway. to check your gateway go to control panel then to network connections and double click your local area connection then properties then double click "TCP/IP" compare your ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, prefereed DNS server and alternate DNS server. that's if you are able to get into your internet protocal properties (TCP/IP) if not then you will have to get an administrator to check it for you. check your lan connection in the internet options - connection - lan setting and check your proxy server and port.
