I am stumped.... she already has: cell phone, ipod. The family has a dog, cant have any more pets. She lives in another state, so cant take her shopping or anywhere else, or even know her taste in clothes right now. Have already done the gift voucher thing for Xmas, so want something different, that can be easily posted. Oh and I want to surprise her, so dont want to ask her. Come on, 12 year olds, help me with suggestions!

If she has an Ipod, I'd get her a gift of down-loadable music. New songs come out all the time and my son is always wanting to download the latest! (he's 12 also).

I know you said you did the gift card thing already, but really it is always a good idea! Where we live you can get a gift card for the mall and it works for all the different stores so they can shop where they want.

Other ideas might be.. magazine subscriptions - 12 is when I started cutting out boys photos in the teen mags and putting them on the walls of my bedroom!

What about books? Drawing stuff? (Sketch pad, expensive drawing pencils/pens, charcoals/paints, etc.)

Is she into photos? What about a digital camera? Picture frames? Photo albums? (another thing my son just got and loves - a digital camera)

Another option is all the accessories that are made for the Ipod, speakers, stereos, I-pals - little animals with speakers in their ears that you hook your Ipod to. A selection of Ipod cases perhaps?

Good luck!

Glad I can dole out aid in this section. ;)

Ask parents and siblings of the kids that know her best. What stores does she shop at? Even, what are in the area? Your first and best bet is gift cards. Whether it's for Abercrombie or Border's Books and Music, a gift card is always appreciated. But be generous with it. If you're going to get a gift card because you don't know what they like, give a little extra to compensate for the unoriginality.

If you want to be a little better, also learn what her favorite color is and what sizes for clothing she wears. Then buy her some prettily decorated low-rise jeans and a top in her favorite color, she'll love that.

However, all girls are different. Some might want that jeans and top, others will just want a book (either go for sci fi if she's a bit on the geekier side, or realistic fiction otherwise).

Another good idea's a CD- Justin Timberlake, Fall Out Boy, or Panic! At the Disco are all safe. Or, give her an iTunes gift card! It's a new idea that is really flying with teens.

She might also like subscriptions to different magazines there are. This is a neat idea that you might not even have to ask the parents about. Try magazines about her interests if you know them, or something like Seventeen or YM Magazine. Trust me, this is a really neat idea.

But if you want to be safe, stick to the cash or gift card. Good luck.

Maybe a portable dvd player with lcd screen? Some speakers or accessories for her ipod? Sometimes with kids that age quantity impresses them, maybe a box filled with differnent types of gum, or a case of her favorite candy bar from Sam's Club. Or try a Hasbro Zoombox DVD Entertainment Projector and she will be able to watch movies on any white wall or ceiling. Hope this helps!

A good gift is money its easy and she can get what she want. For a family member $25-45 and a friend's kid $15.You could also get her an iTunes gift card.

Send her a gift card to Claire's or send her some movie tickets to the theater in her area. Send her a gift subcriptioin to Cosmogirl or another teen magazine since she is just about to get to that age. If you do not want to send a gift card send her a check for a certain amount of money that she can spend how she wants.

Not sure what the relation is, but as a young Girl - I loved getting a surpise of Flowers or gift basket. Sample site below.

Or if her mom's cool with the mani/pedi - a small treatment at a local spa. Always fun!!!

Some good books can be a very good gift. Or you could give her a quick stitch kit which after finishing can be framed and hung on the walls of her room. It is very creative and girls like that kind of stuff. At least I do.
