it is possible that you have your wires backwards

Please clarify. Are you adding these switches to control duplex outlets that your lights are plugged into? or are you replacing old switches with new? or are you doing something different?

I'm confused. What do the switches have to do with the outlets besides being on the same circuit?

*****Sorry. It's very difficult doing this over the internet and terminology is very important. Your heading indicates that you are adding switches to outlets, but it sounds like this is not actually the case. You are just replacing old switches. Is this correct??

You also indicate "fuses", do you mean breaker? Is this an older house with knob & tube wiring? or do you know? Did you actually remove a fuse, or switch off a breaker when you started the project?

It sounds like the fuse may have blown or the breaker may have tripped. i can't imagine that it would be installed wrong if you were just replacing the switch.

You have probably made some incorrect wiring in the process. I cannot diagnose the exact problem without seeing it, so I suggest that you contact a qualified electrician.
