if 2 cars are leaving a intersection, and one is moving at 20 mph south and the other is moving 36 mph west. How fast is there distance changing the instant they are 2.4 miles away?

the simple way to do this problem is to set up a pythagorean triangle with the rates and then

20^2 + 36^2 = x^2

so x = 41.1825 mph

That looks correct to me. The rate of change of distance between them is a constant.
