Well I have 14 cats, 2 dogs and 1 wolf hybrid. The hybrid is my favored breed, but when it comes to independence and ease of care, got to say the cats rule. Let me see some one go away for a weekend, leave a dog inside (like you can a cat), and expect it to use a litter pan. The dog will eat all the food, drink all the water and crap on the floor before the nights over. The cat won't do any of that, well they do sometimes miss the pan. We left our cats for 3 days at home and there was food and water left. The canines, well, we sent them to my moms. I has 22 cats back then and only 2 canines. Now we have a total of 55 pets. No more vacations here.

I am a cat person. I have 3 cats. They are much more independent than dogs and require less maintainence. I can leave for a day or two at a time without having to find a sitter for them, and I do not have to deal with a mess from them coming in from foul weather--they use a litter box! They do not need bathed as often as a dog, and are far less noisy. I am fairly lucky in the unconditional love sense, because there is always at least one of my cats crawling up on me, taking away all my daily stress. They seem to know when I want them around and accomodate that need nicely.
I have several friends who have dogs, and I am rather attached to one of the dogs. They definately have their good qualities, and there is nothing wrong with dogs as pets, but they are too high maintainence for me and I would not own one.

Oh...How do I know if I am a dog or cat person? I love both animals for different reason but it all adds up to the same amount. Can I be just a dog/cat person and not choose?

I really like both. Right now I have 2 wonderful dogs and I haven't had a cat since I was 15 because my oldest dog which I have had for 13 years hates cats and I'm scared to get one any where around her.

I'm both. I love my dogs and my cats. My dogs are always at the fence to greet me when I get home and at least 1 or more cats are waiting for me when I open the door (sometimes are looking out the window). They each have unique personalities and I love them all.

I love both, but as I currently have 2 wonderful cats i have to lean towards cats at the moment.
Also, both my wife and I work full time and as cats are more independent they are definitely helpful to our busy lives, plus they still come for love and attention when we come home.
We would love to get a dog, but maybe when one of us doesn't work, so we can spend the time needed to take care of a dog.
Dogs Rule!
Cats Too!

I am a dog person because dogs could be your best pal. And cats on the other hand, they get older and when they get the chance to, they'll leave and go somewhere else.

Totally a cat person, I have a small fear of dogs, they jump on you and bark and get all excited or angry when you show up. Cats, on average, are nonchalant, they ignore you unless they want attention. Which may seem cold, but they are merely independent, and can be extremely loving to their owner. My cat, snuggles up to me when I'm on the computer or reading in bed.
