Troy does yard work for some of his neighbors, earning $25 for mowing lawns and $40 for "the works," which includes mowing, trimming, and weeding. If in one 3-week period Troy earned $370, how many yards did he mow and how many yards got "the works"?

8 got the work 2 got the normal

8*40 = 320
25*2 = 50

320+50= 370

alternatively

3 got the works and 10 got the normal cut

3*40 = 120
10*25 = 250

250+120 = 370

Not sure how to solve it algebraically from the information given.

Only things that i can see aiding you are:

since 40* any number will give you a multiple of 10 you'll need the number of normal mows to be even, otherwise you'd end up with a 5 as the last digit

so the last digits from the normal mows profits will be either, 50 or 100

if it's a 100 then 40 * number of the works needs to end in 70 which doesn't happen.. so number of normal mows needs to be 2,6,10,14,...etc..

therefore the number of works * 40 needs to end in 20 (so it adds with the 50 from normal mows)..

this occurs with 3 works and 8 works

i'm unsure that your first analogy is robust yet 8+8=2(8) are the two equivalent to sixteen yet would not clarify the finished subject. you will desire to undergo in strategies that one key to fixing the subject is what a while will the the two be in 3 yrs. With numbers that's difficult. Barry will continually be 8 yrs. older than his sister yet I he won't continually be two times as previous. you go with an knowledgeable wager. i theory that Barry could be 13 yrs. previous now & this would make his sister 5 yrs. previous & this works provided that 13-5=8 & that's what proportion yrs. older Barry is then his sister. So now in the event that they'e 5 & 13 yrs. previous, in 3 yrs., Barry would be sixteen & sister would be 8. !6 is two times 8 so as that's superb after 3 yrs. you will desire to undergo in strategies that their difference in age is 8 yrs. & a splash to this subject is that 2x8=sixteen. This 2x8=sixteen is the biggest to answering the two issues. basically undergo in strategies that their difference in age is 8 yrs. & provided that he would be two times her age in 3 yrs., then basically 2x8 & that's the style you place up the respond. You have been close yet this 2x8 anwers the two issues. they're 8 yrs. aside in age so which you purely double 8 & that's sixteen so she would be able to be 8 yrs. previous it fairly is a million/2 his age to boot as 8 yrs. aside in age on a similar time. Now provided that this 2x8 is in 3 yrs. & this makes Barry sixteen & his sister 8, basically subtract 3 from the two sixteen & 8 this provide you 13 &5 which provide you their a while now. to envision your paintings, 13 +3=sixteen & 5+3=8. the two issues can basically be anwered via doubling the version in age it fairly is 8. 2x8=sixteen so then this sixteen would desire to be two times as much as something else. the subject then would desire to be set up properly as 2x=sixteen now 2 situations her age of 8 provide you his age of sixteen. x then is the version in age & you purely double that. So very solid for you given which you have been going interior the excellent path. solid good fortune!!
