My very frugal 64 year old mother would like to get a computer. She will use it for internet only. What brand do you recommend and what basic system requirements should last her a few years without having to upgrade? Are most new systems upgradeable?

Excuse me but you act like us senior's are not able to handle a good computer or just get something for us to f*** up.I have two computer's and i'm not ready for the barn yard yet. i seem to be doing fine and have only had a computer a year,am up to level 6 on this play station as some of you think of it,in two month's and i think over 600 best answer's.So get her a computer and don't worry about not being able to handle it.I do all the side line's on mine just to see if i can do them, copy dvd, photos, change body and heads on photo's,i'm stuck to this pc,so if you need help fel free, youngen.Have a good day, what's left of it.

I've found out that older people do well with a pre mellinum
computer. (ie: Win95, Win98, WinME) You can pick one up for
$100.00 0r less. That will get them going and you can see how
computer smart they are and go from there. Most don't like change and they'll probably stick with it.

A mac.

it is safe and easy to use and easy to upgrade.

hackers rarely attack macs because they already have antivirus programs running in the background.
