I agree with TC. Solid studs are typically yellow pine and the finger jointed studs are typically spf, which usually are straighter than yellow pine. About the only white pine products that I see here in east Texas is white pine trim -- like 1x4s, etc.

Ideally, structural framing should be #2 douglas fir, but it is becoming more rare and expensive.

SPF is substandard but commonly used in spec homes.

#2 yellow pine is acceptable in rafters and ceiling joists due to its strength, but has a tendency to warp.

standard framing lumber is called sfp meaning, spurce, fir and/or pine.
