I'm bored and I need a book. A young adult or teen would be nice.

you could try reading Eragon by Christopher Paolini, or Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. Tamora Pierce books are really good though too.

Edgar Allan Poe - Tales of Mystery and Imagination. I first read it when I was 14. It got me interested in literature.
My next favourite was Frank Herbert's trilogy - Whipingstar, Jesus Incident, and Dosadi Experiment.
I liked them better than Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune.
Issac Asamov's 'I Robot' was the first book in the Foundation series.
Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote 28 books about Tarzan. He never swung from vines. When he was an adolescent ape, he had a rope he used as a swing; and when he got bored, he would use it as a noose to to snare evil humans hunting in his forest, and then warn the rest of them by terrorizing them, by throwing the lifeless bodies into the centre of their village, all the while howling and grunting like an ape. Puts a whole new perspective on puberty, and ecology.

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy is awesome.

Anything by these authors is worth checking out: Douglas Adams, Anne McCaffrey, Orson Scott Card, Robin McKinley and Piers Anthony.

Anthologies of scifi and fantasy short stories I enjoy are the Firebirds books--they are excellent.

Of course, the above are only a sample. I suggest going to your local library and doing some dedicated browsing.
