It sure seems like they are content just to win one. They have a whole new starting rotation and it probably won't be too good behind Chris Carpenter. They needed to do more than just bringing in Adam Kennedy and a bunch of riff raff.

Why not ? Because they were fortunate to even beat the Mets and advance. The Mets led in 6 of the 7 NLCS games and it is a wonder the Cards were even in the series let alone win it. The Mets have too much firepower, despite the thin pitching, as well as a chip on their shoulder after such a humbling series loss. Expecting the Cards to even make the playoffs may be a reach, and this is the years the Mets will put to rest their championship drought.

Every year it's the same thing everyone wants to count out the Cardinals and every year they make the playoffs. The season hasn't even started yet and everyone has them in last place. They are still the Champions and there is no reason they won't be competitive this year. And luck had nothing to do with beating the Mets. You'd be better off saying that the Mets choked. The Cards beat the Mets fair and square and even left their best hitter standing.

How can you say that, because they didn't give millions and millions of dollars to under .500 pitchers. The Cardinals will be just fine,as content on winning just 1 WS Title, the last time I counted they had 10 WS Championships, and I believe they've lost7-8 WS's.Believe me theres nothing that Pujols,Edmonds,Eckstien,
Molina,Carpenter, and the rest of that bunch
would rather do than go back to back in the WS
That team stills feels the sting from the 04 series when Boston handed us our jocks and told us to try again next year.Well we got back there and won last year, guess what I see them competing for another WS Title again this year

I'm not sure I'd agree with your premise that they aren't trying to win another World Series.

IMHO, the Cards will always be the Cards, in that they will try to win with the cards (excuse the pun) that they are dealt or can afford to buy / retain. The Cards won't buy big money stars, rather they grow their young or buy the diamond in the rough. Walt (Cards GM) has been a miracle man in doing this.

So my answer is that they are trying to win another World Series, but not in a way that splashes money around like the Yankees or the Red Sox.

They have retained what they can afford, but let loose the ones that seek the big money deals.

I think it is to early to tell. Yes, they did not sign any pitchers in the offseason, but they could before the mid season. I think they are going with what they have (home grown talent) during the first part of the season. Then, I predict they will make a move.

Also, don't count out their young pitchers. They may prove to be solid. I trust Jocketty. He has built winning teams consistently the last ten years. I predict he will continue to do that this year.

Buying a pennant doesn't always work. Look at the Cubs! ;-)
