If you can read Japanese and Chinese, go to read original writings of that period.
To Chinese, it was an invasion. To Japanese, it was a transition.
The Portuguese went east and west to colonize newly 'discovered'
lands.
The Chinese went west, Southeast Asia, Indian Ocean, and East Africa, peacefully, did not colonize and occupy lands.
