Empathy and sympathy.
I have my own thoughts but i would like to hear yours.
Don't refer to the dictionary if you can help it i would like to hear what comes off the top of your head about the two words

Empathy refers to being able to put oneself in another's position and 'feel' the emotions they may experience.
Sympathy pertains to being able to recognise and indeed react in a positive manner to the emotions of a certain situation but not insert oneself into the same situation and role-play the emotions experienced.

Sympathy is when you feel for someone else, even though you have no idea what they may be going through. Empathy is when you feel another person's pain because you can relate to their situation. You've been there before.

Empathy: feeling of concern and understanding for another's situation or feelings. Also, an emotional feeling of identification or understanding of a work of art.
Sympathy: an inclination to support or be loyal to or to agree with an opinion; "his sympathies were always with the underdog"; "I knew I could count on his understanding

I always relate empathy with 'putting yourself in someone else's shoes" where sympathy is a more general compassion, without having to completely relate to the one concerned.

Empathy is when you know how the other person feels, and connect with them on whatever is wrong and can feel for them. Sympathy means you haven't been through what they have, but you still feel sorry for them.

Empathy is about feelings,ablity to like share another person's feelings,and thoughts and Sympathy is about actions and sharing the absloutely same feelings toward one other.

great question! feels like they're the comparable before everything, yet obedience is an exterior act of compliance. Submission in the direction of any authority is a deferential attitude that comes in the previous, throughout, and in spite of everything strikes. the place a itemizing of regulations and directions would desire to precede obedience, submission precedes regulations and supersedes regulation.

empathy = when you yourself have been through a similar event or had a similar experience (firsthand knowledge)

sympathy = you have never experienced something, and can only imagine how it would make you feel...

Thats a very nice question...i empathize with you, but if no one answers correctly they dont deserve your sympathy.

Sympathy--something you feel toward someone else. In agreement with how they feel. Condolences-- bereavement.

Empathy---feeling what you perceive the other person to feel. ie--feeling their sadness with them.
