Let me give my wife as an example of smart shopping. She recently bought a Toyota Higlander (SUV), and by the time she got to the dealer, she knew MUCH MORE about the vehicle than the salesman did, and my wife is NOT a mechanic. She had owned a 1980 Toyota Corolla stationwagon, and had done similar research on the car, and knew so much about it that she didn't need to take a "test drive" of it. She just chose the color and interior, paid for it, and drove it off the lot. She did the very same thing in 2002 when she bought her Highlander. Also, when my wife goes to the grocery store, she has enough information about the prices of the items she has in her cart, and the comparative prices in other grocery stores across town that she can tell the cashier what the sales price is, who is selling it cheaper in town, and can produce the necessary coupons to get whatever discount there is. And she does it so civily and orderly that I am amazed. I have to admit, that as much as I DETEST using coupons and having to put up with the sales gimmicks various stores use to get us to buy their stuff, my wife does such a thorough job in knowing her desired purchases and their prices that I find it hilarious to go shopping with her because she definitely knows more than most people working at the store. And I can brag that my wife can do the very same thing when she shops for clothes, tools of any kind and general home repair items you might find at places like Lowe's or Home Depot. I can't stand to play what I call "the shopping game", but she does it so well that I love to marvel at her skills. So, how to shop smartly? Shop SMARTLY! God Bless you.

Use cash. Get rid of your credit cards. Cash is much quicker. If you don't have the cash to purchase an item, you can't afford it.

This way there are no credit card bills. You are not charged exorbitant interest by the credit card companies.

Cash gives you financial privacy. With credit cards, there is a record of everything that you purchased, where and when. I don't think that where I spend my money is anybody's business, but mine.

You will never go into debt. You well never have financial worry. Remember, if you don't have the cash, you can't afford it.
