You are the only person that can control you, you are in control of youself now, and your future now human can make you do anything that you don't want to do. Music can influence you if you are young, and ingnorant, or easily influnced but in the end result you are the person that does the action rather positive or negative.

As a 700+ year old Sasquatch ...
Music has always had an impact on the listening ears. The 60's and 70's had a very strong affect! Dylan rallied us. The Beatles and Stones showed what cool was all about. The Mama's and the Papa's gave us hope. Elvis - what can one say? Janus died too young. The Doors - amoungst the very finest! The Monkees - some of the very first video hits.
So, yeah - even MM can have an effect on many.
Even some of the very best are still around to 'send us' somewhere - Beethoven, Mozart. Get my drift?
Love may make it go round but, music rules the world.

The impact that music has on someone is mainly determined by the persons intelligence(ability to listen objectively). At least that's my opinion. So if a bunch of ignorant people listen to Marilyn Manson there is a good chance they will become angry and/or violent. If an intelligent person listens to it they may see it as an expression of grief and find solace in it.
The human mind needs to learn. If a mind is left empty or unoccupied it will absorb anything it can, including angry music or violent television.
The best way to fight violence is to keep people educated and thinking.

Can Maryland Manson have control over a teenager? Not him, but his music can maybe the way specific lyrics are said or different rythms and beats are played throughout the song can have such an effect on us, i don't listen to him by the way

I believe everyone is different in their own way and everyone likes their own kind of music. Just because a person says things in their songs and lyrics doesn't mean their trying to get control over teenagers (I'm one myself!). I love Marilyn Manson and I love his song "Beautiful People". I believe he has some good points in his songs and I like his lyrics. I guess it's really up to one to follow what he says and chose not to follow it. Not just hime but a lot of rock and metal bands. With their music they themselves are letting out their feelings and a lot of it I can relate too. With that said, I guess that's why I listen to my rock music!!! :) It's really up to them, but I don't seem him as a threat or trying to take control over teenagers.

Only the weak minded would do what a musician says in a song. Marilyn has some good tunes, so does Eminem, but they don't do the things they say in their songs, so why should anyone else?

Marilyn Manson can't control anyone's behavior any more than Abba can.

I believe music has a huge impact on us since calming music makes us relaxed and respond calmly, then bad music, loud music, bad words, weird tones, can (and do) have the opposite effect.
Musicians can do what they do, you can't blame them....each person of their own volition can walk away if they don't want ruined by certain kinds of music.

I don't think music can contribute to any characteristic that isn't already there. Music should not be a scapegoat for violence. For heaven's sake, when will people start taking responsibility for their own actions!?
