No harm no foul. In this world not everyone has thick skin and statements are what you make before taking action when other people are involved, this is why you should refrain from racist speach. If you make a racist observation then, either make it a joke or keep your mouth shut. Try and forgive yourself and note to understand someone's motivations in action you must intimately know the person. Every person is an extremely intricate and complicated animal. There are so many things that can develope and factor into someone's decision making. It can be thier upbringing or reenforced behavior from multiple emotional channels of motivation. It can be a way someone acts in accordance with thier comfort zones and what they percieve as acceptable or expected behavior from themselves. It can have to do with self esteem, promise of punishment or reward. So many things. We all are tied to these, to varying degrees.
To stop being racist? Are you asking for yourself? For society in general? I think its just time that will heal all wounds. In regards to actions which speak much louder than words. Even if you have such thoughts, never act upon them. Then no one will ever know the better of you, and actually in the end only your goodness in these regards will be accounted for what you actually did, but never shall you be so deeply fathomed to be noted for what you did not do. You can wallow in misery, self-hate etc. But no one will ever notice, good thing, and the world moves on without you if that is what you let yourself to be.

I think that most people are a little prejudiced, but not necessarily racist. I think racism comes from bad experiences in life, being isolated from other races, and/or (mostly) being raised that way. If you don't do anything hurtful to anyone then I wouldn't worry about the little demons running through your mind, but if you really want to change your attitude you have to go out and experience other people who are different. Learn about their heritage and about who they are as individuals. You can't really be color-blind, but you can treat people as if you were.

I know, and am ashamed of, the fact that I've been racist.
Everyone is a little bit racist.
Racism is far too complex an issue to be solved in a yahoo question answer forum. It is up to humankind to, face to face, work out issues concerning scapegoating, hurtful stereotypes and the media's biased views.

I have to admit that I used to be what I consider racist. I grew up a sheltered life and listened to my influences. Then when I grew up I actually got to know people of different races and now I'm really colored blind. I get to know people before making decisions about them and never look at their color first.

I remember one time I made a racist comment and had NO IDEA it was racist until my friend took me to the side and told me so. Once it was explained to me HOW it was racist, I felt like a total idiot.
