Usually software like that don't help much. They tell you about where you need to place your fingers and stuff, but to learn how to type, you just need to do it over and over again. Like, for instance, if you like to chat, chat ALOT to your friends, or if you play an online game, you can try playing while typing. StarCraft is a great game to try increasing your speed in. They have many trivia channels, where you try and be the first person to type the correct answer. Usually this is extremely hard as the people type VERY fast. You can also try playing games that require a long time and concentration to play. Thus you'll start to memorize the keyboard, so as to not look down and divert your attention. Of course these are all my opinions, even though this is what I did myself.

Truth be told, I'm looking for something like this too - I learned my typing through Mavis Beacon (it came with the computer) and so can relatively accurately at a good speed, but my software version is now out-of-date (doesn't work with WinXP I think) so I've been looking for a replacement.
Anyway, back to the topic after explaining the background to my post, the only *better* software I've actually found recently has been Kiran's Typing Tutor (http://www.kiranreddys.com/products/typing.html) - I've tested some other software as well (you can probably find more searching on google as suggested by others) but in terms of the' interface' Kiran is closer to Mavis Beacon than others (ie. more user friendly) although some teach quite advanced things. Please bear in mind that the last update was in 2003 so it does look a little dated, but its a very intuitive piece of software.

Try downloads.com, idk if they have it but you can search there. But all you need to do to pratice is take a piece of paper, and type word for word what that says without looking at the key board, It will help alot.
The Letters J and F have groves on them place your index finger on them and the rest of your finders on Dsa and kl; That should give you a referance point.
good luck!
