No, you always have a choice to go somewhere healthy. Sure their food may be unhealthy but it's not their fault people choose to eat their food.

NO!
The only time a restaurant should be held accountable is when the risk to health is caused by bad practices! Food-poisoning would be their fault. An occasional burger is not a health risk but eating them regularly is.
It is becoming too easy to blame others rather than take responsability for our own actions. It's not as if the risks aren't known and advertised!
The thing is people don't want to eat healthily. The scene of those parents outside the school giving kids their choice of 'junk' food (Jamies school dinners) proves that! not only wont the kids listen but the parents wont either.

It is not the responsibility of a fast food chain to controll our appetite the only responsibility they have is to ensure they use good quality products and that their kitchens are hygienic and safe environments.
People have a little thing called free will. We each choose how we live our lives. It is society on a whole that controlls our quality of living. Parents no longer take family values as seriously. I was always made to sit at a table with the rest of the family for my tea. Which was always fresh products cooked from scratch. At school I was taught how to cook a 3 course meal and how to budget a household expenditure.
Although this may seem old fashioned and was in fact sexist (only the girls got taught it ) I actually think that all kids should be taught it. that way they can use their free will and make a knowledgeable choice of what they eat.

It depends on the health issue. If the issue is salmonella poisoning, or some other illness then yes the establishment should be held responsible if they aren't following proper sanitation guidelines. If the issue is obesity or high cholesterol, etc. then no, I believe that an establishment should have available for anyone who asks the ingredients and nutritional value (or lack thereof) of their products, but it is not their responsibility to monitor public health. If a person chooses to eat Big Macs or Whoppers and fries every day with milkshakes then it's their own responsibility to monitor their own health. They know what's in the food they are eating.

Not for stuff like gaining wight or other issues arising from over eating. Everyone knows its bad for you, so you cant say you weren't ready for the results. I know its all made of rubbish, but every now and then, ill still have a McDonalds or KFC. If, however the issue arises from a malpractice such as substandard health and hygiene standards or indeed the withholding of important information then of course the restaurant should be accountable.

Absolutely not
People have GOT to start taking the responsibility for their own choices at Some point !!
Almost anything when taken in excess is going to be harmful--so now the vendors of any particular item is going to have to start keeping records on every human they do business with to be sure that they are not overindulging in a particular thing ? It is either that or we are going to see the choices that we have come down to lettuce and grapefruit !! And, then they'll start complaining that the LACK of other things in the diet is responsible for health problems !!!

ROTC up top ^^^ has made the point that it goes without saying (hopefully) that Any business should be made accountable for food served that is unsanitary and contaminated !!! And, with THIS POINT I TOTALLY AGREE !!!

In my opinion they should not be blamed for people health issues because it it not the fast food restaurants fault for how often they eat at their place or how much they order also there is an option to eat health when you go there

No, its a personal choice on what you consume. People claim they are too busy to eat healthy, yet most Americans find time for t.v.

However, the reasoning that since fast food is detrimental to your health and so they should pay bills (or fines) for it is extremely similar to the reasoning given why we tax tobacco, and to a limited extent alcohol. Why does alcohol have less taxes than tobacco? (even though it costs us more in police energy, worker productivity, etc) its b/c less people use tobacco. In the same idea, far more people use fast food than alcohol or tobacco. So it would be far less popular to tax it.

Unfortunately our society is declining at the speed where personal responsibility is less and less a factor. We are becoming children, told by the gov what is good, and by corporations what is entertainment.

Whatever is on the menu, whatever tickles your fancy, you are the one who decides what you would like to eat, and although alot of companies "up-sell", ie is it large, you are not limited to say yes, you can say no, it's just a personal choice and regarding the company, it is part of their job to offer it. Please do not blame fast food restaurants for health problems, after all, everyone has a choice, and a balanced diet and exercise is all you need if you want to avoid such problems.

It's like asking whether drug dealers should be held accountable for drug addicts, isn't it?
In my opinion, the answer is a resounding yes! We can (I do) all say no, of course. But like drug dealers, it's being shoved in our faces and instead of dodgy street dealers, we're bombarded with legal advertising, tempting us with ever increasing deals for these poor quality foods. Smoking has been banned from advertising on TV and now its banned from sports too. Alcohol and Fast Foods should follow suit too. If we want to drink, smoke or eat c**p, then let it be a personal choice and not an encouraged one.

No, people have choices in life & if you choose to eat food from a fast food restaurant then that is up to you. I think that people should be made aware of the impact of eating an unhealthy diet, but a little of something bad in moderation never hurt anybody.

We all have choices & if that is someones choice then it is up to them.
