If Democrats actually believed what they say, he would be unelectable. They would be screaming about his 'drug problem' and drawing ridiculous cartoons of him stoned and babbling.
Naturally, they flip-flop on this just like any other issue.

A lot of people did, of that generation; as long as it didn't affect his brain adversely, I don't see why it should be an issue now, unless he tries to skirt the issue like Clinton did("I didn't inhale?" Come on.) I'd've respected Clinton more if he'd've said, yes, I did drugs in those days, and I realize now it was a dumb thing to do." If Obama doesn't try to BS his way around it and is honest, it will earn him points with me. Not nearly enough for me to vote for him, I don't vote the mainstream parties, but it will make me respect him more.

His name is spelled Barack Obama. At first it was somewhat suprising, but for him that was nearly 30 yrs ago. He admitted to experimenting with drugs in his book DREAMS OF MY FATHER written 11 years ago before he even got into politics. I tried pot once (but didn't inhale--really I didn't) and that the end of my drug use. It takes a person with strength of character to admit to something that unpleasantly personal which happened long ago. Clinton did not have the courage to admit he tried "pot" (I didn't inhale, please!!). Bush did not want to even acknowledge to the public that he was a drunk and got arrested with a DUI. What do I think about Barack Obama using drugs in the past? Nothing, he admitted that it was a mistake of a misguided youth.

I think your question is naive. What person, born after 1963,hasn't used, been around, touched, tasted, seen, smelled,
swallowed, drank, picked up, turned over, danced around, inhaled, or not, some sort of illegal drug? I would trust anyone who admitted to it way over someone who said they had never been around it any ole day of the week and I'm about as straightlace and drug free as a person can be.

I'd want a candidate who has some life experiences ... which includes some recreational drug use if he were even close to being a normal teenager.
Bush was a big druggie and alcoholic. Nobody seems to mind that.

It's no bigger a deal than all the stories about Bush in 2000. I don't consider these things at all when i think about Obama.

who the f__ cares. as long as hes not doing them now or even if he is doing it now, keep it private and dont let it affect your job. why does everyone have to be choir boy clean. personally i dont give two shits what he did in his past. maybe if was a rapist i might care, but not about drugs. i know alot of people that are hard working, do above and beyond what they are asked and get high occasionally. thats not to say there are some dumbasses out there that are dumb as hell when they get high.
but like i said as long as hes clean now and he seems to do a good job at what hes doing, hes ok in my book

A politician? Who used drugs? Not uncommon. A politician honest enough to admit it? Very rare.

this message is to the idiot that thinks about an assassination of our future president. The ONLY ONE WHO WILL GET ASSASSINATED IS THE GUY WHO TRIES TO ASSISI NATE THE PRESIDENT. The government has too many secret service men that won't allow it, so keep dreaming. There are hardly any KKK members left, they are a bunch of punks who don't have any power over the government and society because they are a bunch of boys who are not man enough to take the sheets off their faces.

that he is human and went to college. and most people have tried drugs or smoke cigarettes or drink and got drunk at least once in their life. i would be more skeptical that someone who grew up in the hippie era said they didn't. but like someone said im more worried if its a continual or chronic drug issue now.

I don't think his prior drug use is an issue (unless he just banged a rig of heroin last night). At least he was honest and admitted it, which is more than I can say for most politicians. Nevertheless, I still sharply disagree with him on substantive issues.
