It's not about becoming a better person from the inside- that one depends on values you learn and choose to adopt.

However, when it comes to knowledge/ academia, reading definitely helps. It widens your horizons, makes you aware of more around you and introduces you to concepts you would never have been familiar with otherwise.

When you have more knowledge, you can conduct conversations effectively and intelligently with anyone! This will allow others to deem you as a clever and smart person who knows things.

What you can read?....

hmmm...well it depends.

If you want to gain more knowledge about science and politics and widen your horizons here, then you should read:

Biographies of famous people.
Time Magazine/ Newsweek/ National Geographic

If you want to improve your language, just read any books that are suitable for your age/ those above your level.

If you want to simply destress and wallow in the teenage world- chick flicks are always available.

- Queen of Babble (meg cabot)
- Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants (Ann Brashares)
- Shopaholic Series ( Sophie Kinsella)

You are what you read and the best book to read is the Bible. It has a Divine author, and it is right about everything it talks about.
Psalm 119:104 "Through thy precepts I get understanding."
Psalm 119:128 "Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right."
Psalm 119:99 "I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation."
