Underrated post-grunge bands like At the Drive-In or Sunny Day Real Estate started the whole emo genre yet most people have not heard of either.

Personally I thought it was Smashing Pumpkins!! They did release an album called Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. It doesn't get much more emo than that.

That stuff was emo before emo was cool!

Yeah it did, it started out as a great type of music that actually had a message and feeling behind it, and it was great, until people started using it to stereotype the people that listen to it and have styles similar to it. Now it's sadly just another label that people use to bug the kids that have their own personality... but hey I still like the genre of music anyway!

I agree, emo was an amazing thing before chavvy children decided to adopt it as the latest passing fad. Though to be honest, I've heard of those bands and they aren't thaaaat great, there are better ones.

well, if they started emo i should give them a thank you. but i've never heard of them until know. emo is a good thing there's nothing wrong with it. people just see is as something "dangerous"-said by brandon flowers from the killers.

Your question seems as though you are saying emo is bad.......I think it's the best music there is, but it seems to be an interesting question to ask here, as the answers would all be opinions and could instigate an arguement.....

Maybe, but it's basically a dorks' musical expression, whining about sad cruel world and not being loved and being abused by bullies. Morons who like emo, like this girl above, write things like "I haven't heard of them until know" - well, how can you NOT take her money, make fun of her, and kick her in the butt when she's so stupid? I mean, their sense of fashion is a disaster, their clothes look like they've wiped bathrooms with them. But it is funny, when you see them all dirty & hairy & with those stupid sad eyes, and you root for who'll pop themselves dead first. A bunch of pathetic losers.

Who says it's not a good thing? People take labels way too seriously. Music is music and peope are people-labels dont'matter.

Yes it did. And then the corporates took over and it all went downhill from there.
