Are you certain you HAVE jury duty? Did you already call in and find out for sure that you are required to be there? A lot of the summons just have you call in first to find out if your group is called. (When I got mine, I had to call in every day and the recorded voice told you to show up or not)

Jury duty is everyone's civic duty and the court takes it VERY seriously. You have to appear, or else you may be found in contempt of court, and/or a warrant could be issued.

Your friend may have slipped through the cracks, but trust me, at some point in time your friend will get jury duty again, and when he/she shows up and tries to get out of it, the judge will likely frown upon the prior violation.

I would strongly encourage that you show up tomorrow. Plus, even if you do have to show up, who knows if you'll actually even have to stay or get placed on a jury? Once they dismiss you, you're done for the year! Get it done with! (And bring a book or magazine or something! It can get boring sitting around there waiting!)

Good luck.

Possibly nothing.. or.. perhaps some day you will be driving along and a nice policeman will pull you over to inform you that your taillight is burned out.. he will discover that you are in contempt of court.. he will take you before the judge.. and the judge will put you in jail for.. oh.. however long the judge thinks he wants to keep you there.. no trial.. no lawyers to talk you out of it... you would be in contempt.. and I don't believe there is a statute of limitations...

I've heard of people spending a couple of years in jail for contempt...

I've also heard of judges throwing someone in jail for a few months for contempt 40 years prior...

go collect your $6 or whatever they pay.. they have a roomfull of people.. what are your chances of being one of the 13 picked?

Besides, there are a lot of people that they release for "cause"... and many people are exempt.. like students (but not teachers)...

Maybe you can get in on a really good trial and become famous!!

Eventually they will catch up with you, issuing a warrant, though it might be just misdemeanor. But really - what's wrong with doing your citizenly, constitutionally prescribed duty and just showing up for jury?

I know sometimes they send the sheriff out to knock on your door. You answer, and they simply take you to the courthouse. Basically, they're a taxi service. I'm not sure what happens if you pretend you're not home, however.
