She is around the sixth month mark and has been told by her doctor that she may have to have a ceserian section because of her cervix being blocked. It isn't cancer of the cervix. My fiance found out from his father an idea of what is going on with her, but he didn't bring home enough information for me to gather to try to research what is exactly going wrong. Do you have any idea of what the possibilities for this case are? Have you experienced a similar situation and if so were the results a c-section? Thank you for the responce, I know it's not alot of information you're working with.

She has what is called placenta previa or partial (meaning not the entire cervix is covered by the placenta.).

This happens to most women in 2nd pregnancy early on because the placenta grows quicker than the uterus. The placenta is a liver-looking temporary organ that provides the baby with its nutriuants, oxygen, etc. But normally it also corrects itself by the 5 - 6 mo.

SOMETIMES, regardless of the number of pregnancy it is for a patient, the placenta is low in the uterus. It should be cervix (or opening where the baby comes out), baby, placenta. Somestimes for unexplained reasons, its cervix, placenta (or part of the placenta) baby. The placenta covers the opening.

The reason for c-section is that the baby must be born BEFORE the placenta because once the placenta (or "after-birth") is delivered it no longer functions--- no more oxygen for baby. So they take the baby by c-section as to avoid any complications.

Your sister-in-law may have some bleeding as her pregnancy goes on (the baby gets bigger, pushes on the placenta, causes bleeding). This does NOT mean miscarriage but she will need to call the DOC., who will then put her on strict bed rest after checking the baby to make sure its ok and getting what it needs.

It used to be dangerous for the mom with extra bleeding and mean possible still born but NOT anymore!!!! It means she has to take it easy and she will have the baby by C-section.

The placenta can STILL move out of the way (though not so likely if she is already 6+ mo) as the baby grows it sorta pushes it out of the way. They will do more ultrasounds Im pretty sure to check the position.

Hope this helps... she will be ok... its more common and not dangerous anymore.

Is it possible the placenta is in the way? If the placenta blocks the cervix, a c-section is the only way for the baby to be born.

iIt is called placenta previa. I had a minor case of it, and I delivered vaginally. It is where the placenta is like covering the cervix, so when the baby is ready to come, it won't be able to get through. It isn't anything that your SIL caused. It just happens. The doc will give her ultrasounds to watch it carefully.

Yup, I think it's called Placentia Previa - where the placenta covers up the opening of the cervix.

most likely her cervix is being blocked by a low laying placenta.i had this but luckly by the 9th month it moved over cause of growth just enough to let my baby pass.but another thought she should remind the dr. is that all the cord will be by the opening which will increase the chance of it being pinched off or the baby getting tangled.it rapped around mine neck and dont want to scare ya but he almost died.if they offer c.section i would take it in a heartbeat!
