What would be the best motorcycle (and minimum engine size) that could provide reliable, high MPG cruising in both the City and on the highway

Awhile back Cycle World magazine compared a buch of smaller bikes for fuel mileage. I think the best was a Yamaha TW200 at about 80mpg, but, its hardly a highway bike. In fact anything under 400cc tends to have to scream their guts out at highway speeds. Two other bikes that they tested that did well were the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and the Buell blast. Both got good mileage and both can hold highway speeds. The Kawasaki goes for about $3000 and the Buell for about $4500, but, both bikes are easy to find used.

I get around 55 to 60 mpg on my Suzuki GS500F - and yes, it's more than capable of highway travel with an air cooled 500 cc parallel twin. The Ninja 250 has to rev a bit more to go down the highway, but it gets even higher mileage, in the 70 mpg range.

thats a damn good question all i can tell u is my 800vulcan classic used to get about 50mpg on the highway maybe 45mpg in town sometimes a little better sometimes a little worse but i have since modified and its down to around 40 in town and 45 on the highway but is a lot more fun to ride. none of these are really bad numbers though its a fairly light bike , you get blown around on the highway a little but , a lot easier to handle in town also. i am not a salesman just telling u my experience . l

u need at least a 750cc for the highway. i had 1, and got mid 50's mpg at 55.

I get 60 on my '98 Buell 1200. Thats pretty good right?
