It can actually be pretty hard.

To be honest, if they know just a little bit about computers, they can easily get past the block.

Here is what I recommend you do -

Sit down with them and explain to them that you know they are young adults (this gives them the feeling that you are on their side, and have less of a temptation to go against what you say, and also gives them the urge to live up to the "young adults" statement.). Let them know that the internet has some terrible things on it and that people can not only take advantage of the computer, and ruin it, but can also take advantage of them. Let them know your spouse has installed software on each of their accounts (if they have accounts), and that it monitors ALL of the websites they go to. Tell them they can't see the software, and that it was very expensive. Let them know they can still chat with friends, and that the software will only alert you guys if they go to an adult website, or a website they shouldn't be at.

This will scare the crap out of them.

There may be special software that you can buy to block sites, but the software will be noticable, and easily terminated if running.

Good luck.

AOL allows you to block sites if you do not have AOL it is likely that you will have to purchase parental control software, upgrade to vista, of if you have wireless internet then you can log on to your router and add the sites to the blocked sites list.

you could go to the block sites on your router or do it through an content
advisor on the internet properties on the content tab and put all the websites in there

Unless you get some sort of hardware-based content management (Fortnet) - the kids will likely be able to circumvent most software solutions. Check with your internet provider, they sometimes have some free solutions.

I bought a program that records any activity on my computer. Tell your kids that it is there and just knowing you can check on them at anytime keeps them from going to bad sites.
