I'm just curious. I've noticed a lot of women's boards have a much smaller waist, and I'm not sure if I like this, mainly because I don't have small feet! Also I'm not your typical build either. I'm about 5'8, 145 - 150lbs, and a size 10 to 11 shoe in womens (I'm also flat footed so I usually wear men's shoes because they give me more room). Is there a huge difference between the boards? I'm still learning and about to buy my own board so I just want to know if I'll be at a disadvantage if I decide to use a men's board. Please let me know what you guys think!

You can pretty much look at it this way. There are women's specific boards and then there are Unisex boards. There really is no such thing as a "men's snowboard." A women's specific board will have a narrower waist (for a typically narrower foot), a narrower stance pattern (for a typically smaller frame) and a slightly softer nose (since women have a lower center of gravity). Sometimes the sidecut is moved forward, but not always. From the sound of it, this wouldn't suit you very well, so I'd say you could rock a non-women's board very well.

Have fun

Yeah you would be fine with a mens board alot of boards that were previously sold as just mens boards are actually classed as unisex now as they have become really popular with women riders. Boards such as the Ride Kink, Palmer Honeycomb, Forum Destroyer and many more are all now all considered unisex boards. The main difference between mens and womens boards are the lengths and the width of the board other than that they are pretty much the same thing. So if you have larger feet and are quite tall it would make sense to go for a mens or a unisex board over a womens board. I used to ride with a girl who always rode mens boards, im not sure how large her feet where but she was only 5'2 so i doubt they were very large. She basically rode mens boards as she didn't like the graphics on womens boards and the fact that they always seemed to come in pink/purplely type colours she never seemed to have any trouble riding the boards she had despite being so small. It wouldent surprise me in years to come if almost all boards become unisex for example you could go out and buy a Rome Anthem from a 147 to a 166 and with varying degrees of width?. I think this could well happen only time will tell.

Female boards are designed for females! They are more narrow because women generally have smaller feet. You might end up with toe and heel drag which is not chill. I know some say, if it works, then ride it. But if you're gonna get a board anyway, then why not get a mans board? Its the principal of the thing too!...Ya know? The fact is the functionality of a women's snowboard does not suite a man. And morally its just wrong, unless you're into drag. (actually,...even if you are into drag, its still wrong)

Yes you can ride a "guys" board, the women specific boards are generally designed for women for the obvious reasons, smaller feet, not as heavy and even not as strong, Id go with a 156 length and stand on the board in the store and make sure your feet arent hanging off the edges, companys do make wider boards for people who have bigger feet. Dont think that you are at any disadvantage at all with the guys boards. Ive rode for 15 years and never bought a womens board, flower graphics arent for me!!

your fine with a mens board. womens boards are for women that have small feet and are short and don't weight that much. my first two boards were mens and they work fine. the only difference is the weight. my women's board is very light. since you are just learning, go with the men's board, buy an expensive women's board after you have gotten really good at riding. when i started riding there was no such thing as a women's board. its all about finding the right height and width for you.

SURE because the board doesnt know you are a girl it only knows how much weight is on it and you dont want ur feet hanging off a lot

still try to stick to a women's board, but try to get men's shoes. this is because women have a different center of gravity than men, so that's why women's boards were even invented

i have large feet so i went with the burton custom canyon for its wider design.
its a length and width issue...then look at the flex of it..soft board great in the bumps...stiff board holds a high speed edge..."all mountian" designs are the middle of the road for choice.
id go short...wide...and medium flex...so you can fly..yet hit the powder and the crud all with one board. ebay is where i found my Custom Canyon. it was already scuffed up and i got sweet deal on it too.

you could probably rock a men's board, but be warned, it wont ride quite as well. they make women's boards for a reason: they are specifically engineered for women
