He's a quick summary. Barack Obama was both to a white woman from Kansas and african man from Kenya. He claims to be a Christian. He was raised primarily by his mother and his maternal grandparents. He attended Ivy league schools. He represent IL and leaves on the south side of Chicago. He has written two best-selling books (yes he wrote them himself), DREAMS OF MY FATHER, and THE AUDACITY OF HOPE. His rise in the national spotlight started when he gave the 2004 Democratic National Convention opening speech (he wrote the speech himself). If you would like to you know more about his bid to be president go to the link below. If you want to know more about the man (his hopes, beliefs and etc) I recommend reading his books.
The comments of PATRICIA D are mostly bogus and untrue. Don't believe it.

Your questions about religion and the upbringing of Barack Obama in one breath conjures up in my mind a vision of his life.
"Barack Obama was born and left in a manger.
An angle picked him up (Maternal Grandparents) and carried him through the clouds to the highest peak. From there he was put on a chariot (more like a rocket) and carried into the heavens. His presence was so bright he could be seen by all".
Otherwise the only other comparison I could make would be to Abraham Lincoln of Illinois, where Obama is senator, except of course that Lincoln was white and Obama is black. Both based their platforms on pulling the country together.

Obama is a Christian and not a MUSLIM. He had a tough childhood because their parents were divorced when he was 2 yrs old. His father returned to Kenya after the divorced and his mom remarried to an Indonesian man when Obama was six yrs. old. Afterward, they all moved to indonesia where his mom gave birth to his half sister. When Obama reached ten yrs old, he moved back to hawaii to live with his grandparents, and that's where he grew up and went on to college. I think he will make an excellent President or vice President but unfortunately, America is still a VERY racist country, therefore, he will definitely not going to win in 2008. (mark my words!)

He has two books out, I cannot tell you their title, however somebody must be reading them as there is a waiting list at the library. In answer to your question, I saw him on 60 minutes last night and I am impressed. When ask if being black would hamper him becoming president he said no, if he didn't get elected it was because he hadn't fully explained his position on the issues. When ask about his drug use as a young man he answered that it was a youthful indiscretion. He and his wife were dressed in blue jeans, very casual and both seemed very well educated and intelligent. He is a Christian, belonging to a Church on the south side of Chicago, he attends regularly. I do want to know more before I decide to vote for him but I also do like what I see, it has been described as a breath of fresh air, from the typical Washington politician.

Patricia D and Renae C are the reason we get bad presidents. They do not do enough research before voting and do nothing but listen to media hype and negative campaigning. Basically, the media votes for them (like Fox news which is completely biased). Also, to vote for someone based on their name is ridiculous!!! You should not be allowed to vote but thankfully for you...you live in America. You are the people who take freedom for granted and you don't take it seriously. Do yourself and all of us Americans a favor and do some REAL research before voting. I'm not telling you to vote for Obama (which is what I'm doing for now, but hey..the campaigning just started), just please at least vote with some knowledge of the candidates.

Not much right now. I am sure the media will over saturate us with details over the next 2 years (only 2 more years of Bush!! An end to our long national nightmare is in sight!!).
3 things I know and like:
1. He is relatively new to politics=fresh ideas( hopefully)
2. He is the only Democrat running who was against the illegal war in Iraq from the beginning(BIG plus)
3. He has minority blood (I am sick and tired of old, rich white guys and their "good ol' boy" networking)

He's Christian. He was raised by his midwestern Baptist mother and his stepfather (it's his birth father who was a Muslim), and they lived overseas part of that time. He represents Illinois, and he's well educated and well spoken. He likes to point out in his speeches that the United States of America is more than just Red States and Blue States, more than just Democrats and Republicans, that we're more than our differences. He has a vision of hope for the country, which in my opinion might be long overdue.

I've said this over and over. He is NOTHING!
He is the creation of the liberal media (a couple of guys decide they want him on every published rag and mag around the country).
He is just a FIGMENT of THEIR liberal American-hating imagination. Not yours, not mines!
That is why when you look at his political record it offers NOTHING, except a guy who has a couple of liberal votes, that's all.
You can look behind him, above him, underneath him (ok, if you do that you'll find some people saying he was just a so-so student while in Hawaii), and around him and find NOTHING!
Nothing to OFFER US! No SOLUTION, we don't need a Mr. Clean, we need his SOLUTION, in which he offers NOTHING. (no pun intended).

His father "took" him when he was a baby (what was his white mother doing?!?!) to raise him a Muslim. He went to Muslim schools but no one will say whether or not they were Wahabi sect schools (Al Quaeda trainee schools). He and his wife are NOT married, she is his common law wife. Can't he even make a committment to the mother of his children? His father has been in trouble with the law and fled the US to "hide out". He has certainly turned a LOT of heads. He's only a first term senator, hardly enough experience to run a state let alone the country!! The Blacks are starting to call him an "Uncle Tom", not a flattering stigma if you are a man or woman of color. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton loathe him....... So much for the backing of the Rainbow Coalition!! His book is written like he is some kind of law professor..... Do you know any other first term senator, excepting Hilbilly of course, who wrote and published his own biography in mid-life? What does he plan on doing the rest of his life, nothing to write about I guess...
