It was first released by Roger Whittaker in 1982. Best known for the song is Bette Midler but her version was not released until 1988. Many other artists have also done their version of this song. Some of them are Sheena Easton (1982), Gladys Knight & the Pips (1983), Willie Nelson (1984), Perry Como (1987), Patti Labelle (1992), plus many others. Very popular song.
