How old were Romeo and Juliet?? weren't they like in their teens....and not just teens, but EARLY teens like 13-14. Right??

Also, why is this considered the greatest love story of all times when they both wind up killing themselves in the end??

1.You are perfectly right about their ages
2. They died because of love for one another. However, literally and metaphorically, their deaths brought their hitherto feuding families together. As it is said in the Holy Book, "Hatred stirs up strife but love covers all offenses." That is the lesson for eternity. For God's love for us, Jesus died for our sins. Romeo and Juliet symbolically, achieved this. Of course, they did not intend to bring peace but Shakespeare suggests that their tragic deaths happened because of the feuds. It is not their deaths which is the source of the tragedy but the errors in judgment that they make because they are caught up in probable and possible situations we can identify with. Their ages suggests their youth, innocence and love which their families are lacking.

Romeo's age isn't mentioned, if I remember correctly. But Juliet is 13, almost 14.

I'd guess at Romeo being much older, though, about 20 or so. It was pretty common practise "in those days", according to my Year 12 English teacher.

To answer your second question, it's seen as a great love story BECAUSE they killed themselves. Sacrifice for love makes a great tale. You see it in all the great books/plays/movies/whatever that have anything to do with love. Maybe not so far as suicide, but to some degree.

Juliet was 13 years old and Romeo was about 17 years old. They were the most wonderful couple ever because Juliet loved Romeo, who was poisoned and killed,so much that she died on the same day with him for she could not live without him. So she took his dagger and plunged it into her heart killing herself and falling upon Romeo. They had a forbidden love. That is what makes it soooooo great and romantic.

juliet was 13-14 and Romeo was like 17. and people take the story the wrong way. they think their love was so beautiful and strong. but it was dangerous. it is so much like real life and their is a lesson to be lerned from it which is why it is so great.

juliet was 13 or 14, but i think romeo was 18.

the fact that they killed themselves in the end is what makes it so great. they couldn't live without each other.
