It depends on what kind of history...If you're going to go with war, I'd say either Saving Private Ryan, Glory, Platoon or Full Metal Jacket....
If your going to go with a Bio-Pic it would have to be Blow, The Doors, The Aviator, or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Saving Ryan, Band of Brothers(has an impact because they interview the actual people portrayed in the series, tugs at the heart), Tora! Tora! Tora! because it shows the perspective of the Japanese and American sides of the war, U571, Titanic, Legend of the Fall (WWI battle scenes), and the Great Raid.
