Sure it was. The Pirates needed a big stick to give Jason Bay some protection in the line up and LaRoche definately should be able to do that.

As of now, I believe the Adam LaRoche trade is a good one for the Pirates. Yes we had to give up our stopper from last year but the Pirates at the end of the season due to Gonzalez's injury were able to test a few arms for this year.I think the leading candidate right now would be Salomon Torres

Yes indeed. With the Pirates trading from a strength (relief pitching) they filled the biggest need that they had on their team. The Pirates only had one player that hit over 20 home runs last year and that was Jason Bay. Since they were the last team in the majors in home runs and runs scored, they needed to get someone to help in both areas. They got their man in LaRoche. He not only has improved over the last three seasons, he still is only 28 years old and has many productive years ahead of him. It also doesn't hurt that he will play half of his games in PNC Park, a paradise for left-handed power hitters. One of the best trades the Bucs have made in many years!

It was a great deal for the Pirates. Adam Laroche is young and he has proven himself to be good. It was not a very good trade for the Braves though.

It made sense for both teams. Atlanta badly needed to revamp it's bullpen and Pittsburgh is already stocked with quite an arsenal of young and promising pitchers, but were lacking another solid hitter. Last season Pitt was last in the league in scoring and homers.
Salomon Torres can be a good closer, not quite as dominating as Gonzalez, but good nonetheless. Damaso Marte can probably also fill in at closer if need be. Hopefully all their young starters can get over their sophomore slumps and fulfill their potential.
Regardless, I don't see the Pirates being able to compete for at least another couple years, unless they sign some big name free agents next off season (not likely).

It was good and bad. The Pirates need anybody with a bat to help protect Bay, but they are also still without pitching. Pitching is at a premium and the Pirates are not in the running for it. So, keeping it short and to the point. Good for the protection of Jason Bay, but bad because they still don't have pitching.

Losing Gonzalez hurt, but it was a move they had to make. They couldn't find anyone to protect Bay through other avenues. Now their 3-4-5 (Sanchez, Bay, LaRoche) is at least decent.

Absolutely. He hit 32 homers in his 2nd season as the primary starer, he can only get better, while Gonzalez got hurt at the end of last year. Congrats on this one sided trade for the Pirates.

it truly isn't any longer a triumphing lineup. in trouble-free words Bay and McLouth are above favourite and all of those gamers are intense priced. i imagine the team is heading in the right route, trading intense priced mediocre gamers for youthful, more beneficial gifted, decrease priced gamers. Pirate followers, would you somewhat win seventy 5 video games a twelve months for the subsequent 3 years with that lineup or roll the dice on having a winner in many years?

If LaRoche plays like he did last year, then it was a huge trade for them.
